Charity manages evacuation centres

Evacuation centres set up by Sunshine Coast Council for use during emergencies will be managed by Red Cross.
The two parties will today sign a memorandum of understanding to formalise the arrangement.
Red Cross Queensland executive director Greg Goebel said providing personal support during emergencies, and managing evacuation centres, were two of the most important services provided by the organisation in Queensland.
“We know from experience that emergencies require the expertise, skills and resources of both government and non-government emergency management agencies,” Mr Gobel said.
“The signing of this memorandum will formalise the role of Red Cross on the Sunshine Coast and will provide both agencies with a clear understanding of what is expected during an emergency.”
Under the memorandum, council will have evacuation centre kits in stock, ready and available for use by Red Cross.
