Snow emergency

Toronto Transportation may declare a snow emergency when a significant amount of snow falls within an eight hour period. During a snow emergency, it is illegal to park or stop on a snow route. A fine and towing may result.
The declaration of a snow emergency will be publicized in the media and announced on both the RoadInfo line 416-599-9090 and 416-338-SNOW. Snow emergencies remain in force for at least 72 hours but may be extended if required. We encourage you to leave your vehicle at home and to use public transit during a snow emergency. If you must drive to your destination, use a Snow Route, as they have snow removal priority.
Police, fire and ambulance services rely on clear roads to respond quickly to emergencies. Toronto Transportation is responsible for moving vehicles that delay our crews or hinder snow-clearing operations, even when a snow emergency has not been declared or when a vehicle is legally parked. In these instances vehicles are usually towed to an adjacent street. Call Toronto Police Service at 416-808-2222 to locate a vehicle that has been towed from a major arterial roadway. Illegally parked vehicles may be tagged, towed and impounded.
