The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement earlier this week regarding the work of the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit, the Vancouver Police Department and security partners involved in the successful 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate and thank the various police forces, law enforcement and public safety agencies from all levels of government and from across the country on their outstanding work during one of the largest domestic security operations in Canadian history.

The Vancouver Police Department, the 2010 Integrated Security Unit and security partners worked seamlessly together to ensure a safe and secure environment for all. The impressive dedication and commitment of the security and public safety team made it possible for everyone to enjoy a safe and hugely successful Olympic Winter Games.

I join with all Canadians in expressing our pride and admiration for our athletes and look forward to cheering on our Paralympic athletes as they too go for gold on home soil.”
